Acrisure Stadium opened on August 18, 2001 as Heinz Field, replacing Three Rivers Stadium which had served the Steelers and Pirates since 1970. Built at a cost of $281 million, the stadium was designed by HOK Sport (now Populous) and features an open horseshoe design at the north end that frames stunning views of the Pittsburgh skyline and the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers.
The stadium was renamed Acrisure Stadium in 2022 when Acrisure, a Grand Rapids-based insurance technology company, acquired the naming rights. The Great Hall on the east concourse celebrates Steelers history with displays honoring the franchise's legendary players and six Super Bowl championships.
The venue sits on Pittsburgh's North Shore, directly adjacent to PNC Park (home of the Pittsburgh Pirates), making it one of the best sports complexes in America with two major venues within a 5-minute walk. In 2025, a new Terrible Towel Kiosk was added inside Gate C, and the stadium hosted NFL Draft activities in 2026 with a 44 x 25-yard football field installed outside near the Gate A Lawn.
Acrisure Stadium has more than 45 restrooms across four levels — Lower Level, Club Level, Suite Level, and Upper Level. The stadium has 24 women's restrooms, 24 men's restrooms, and 8 family restrooms, with over 50 accessible restrooms featuring baby-changing stations.

Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park are literally next door to each other on the North Shore — you can walk between them in under 5 minutes. The North Shore has one of the best sports complexes in America with both venues, plus restaurants and riverfront trails.
The Great Hall on the east concourse under the stands is filled with Steelers history displays and is worth exploring before kickoff. The restrooms near the Great Hall tend to be busier — walk further around the concourse for shorter lines.
The open north end of the stadium frames views of the downtown Pittsburgh skyline and the point where the three rivers meet. Upper Level Sections 505-510 on the north side have the best views, and the restrooms up there are less crowded than the Lower Level.
For the cheapest parking, use one of the Gold Lots across the Allegheny River ($8-12 on non-game days, $20-40 on game days) or park downtown and walk across the Roberto Clemente Bridge, which is closed to traffic and becomes a pedestrian-only tailgate area on game days.
The Terrible Towel tradition is legendary — buy one at the new kiosk inside Gate C and wave it during big plays. Every Steelers fan does it. The stadium turns into a sea of gold and black.
North Shore restaurants like Southern Tier Brewery, Burgatory, and North Shore Tavern make excellent pre-game spots. North Shore Tavern on Federal Street is directly across from PNC Park and serves solid pub food with outdoor seating.
All restrooms are open. Gates open 2 hours before kickoff. The Roberto Clemente Bridge (6th Street Bridge) is closed to traffic and becomes a pedestrian walkway on game days. The Lower Level concourse is the busiest — use Upper Level restrooms at halftime.
The University of Pittsburgh plays home games at Acrisure Stadium. Most restrooms remain open, though some premium areas may be restricted. Expect a different crowd dynamic than Steelers games.
