Our toilet data: where it comes from and how we check it
Every toilet page on Dunny Dash is built from one dataset, so the numbers in a page's title, text, FAQs and map always match. This page explains where that data comes from, what each field means and how we keep it current.
Sources
- Australia: Australian Government open data on public toilets, published by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing on data.gov.au under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia licence. © Commonwealth of Australia. We refresh our copy regularly and keep every change for review before it goes live.
- Corrections from people who use Dunny Dash: reports of closed toilets, wrong hours or missing facilities. Each one is checked by a person before anything changes.

How often it's refreshed
Each page shows two dates: when the page was last updated, and when its toilet data was last refreshed. Each toilet also shows the date its own record last changed.
Open now
We work out whether a toilet is open from its listed hours, in the local time of the state it's in. "Daylight hours" toilets use the sunrise and sunset for that spot on that day. If the hours depend on a venue or event, we say "Hours vary" rather than guess. Listed hours can differ on public holidays and during maintenance, so treat the status as a guide.
What the facility labels mean
We only show a label when the record says the toilet has that facility. If a record doesn't mention something, we don't assume it either way.
