Free ice water: Any quick-service restaurant at Hersheypark will give you a free cup of ice water — just ask at the counter. On a humid Pennsylvania summer day with temperatures in the 90s, this is critical. Stay hydrated between chocolate milkshakes.
Allergy info: Hersheypark offers allergy menus at most food locations. This is a chocolate-themed park, so peanut and tree nut allergies require extra vigilance — Reese's products contain peanuts and are everywhere. Ask any food counter for allergen information. The park allows outside food for dietary needs.

Hersheypark in the Dark (Oct): Extended fall hours with rides in the dark plus scare elements. Hersheypark Christmas Candylane (Nov-Jan): The park transforms into a winter wonderland with 5 million lights, Christmas-themed rides, Santa's Reindeer, holiday shows, and hot chocolate everywhere. A family favorite — genuinely magical at night. Springtime in the Park (Apr-May): Opening weekends with lighter crowds and pleasant weather.
Hersheypark is located at 100 Hersheypark Drive in Hershey, Pennsylvania — a small town in central PA built entirely around the Hershey chocolate company. The town itself has chocolate-themed street lights shaped like Hershey Kisses. The nearest major highway is US-422, with I-81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike both within 15 minutes.
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76 West) to Exit 266 (Lebanon/Lancaster), then US-422 West to Hershey. Approximately 1.5 hours without traffic. A popular day trip from Philly, but many families make it a weekend to enjoy Chocolate World, the Hershey Story museum, and Hershey Gardens.
Take I-78 West through New Jersey to I-81 South, then US-322 West to Hershey. Approximately 3 hours. Alternatively, take the NJ Turnpike to the PA Turnpike. Weekend traffic on the NJ Turnpike can add 30-60 minutes. Leave early.
Take I-83 North to US-322 West to Hershey. Approximately 1.5 hours. A very popular weekend trip for Baltimore families. The drive is scenic through central PA farmland.
Take I-95 North to I-83 North (at Baltimore) to US-322 West. Approximately 2 hours. Or take I-270 to US-15 to PA-283. Many DC-area families combine Hersheypark with a trip to Gettysburg (40 miles south).
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76 East) to Exit 247, then US-283 East to Hershey. Approximately 3 hours. The Turnpike is a toll road — expect $20-30 in tolls each way.
Rideshare drop-off at the designated area near the main entrance. ~$10 from Hershey hotels, ~$15-25 from Harrisburg. Return availability is generally good — Hershey is a busy tourist area. Pre-schedule your return ride during Dark Nights evenings.
Just 15 miles, approximately 20 minutes via PA-283 East. The closest major airport. Rent a car (recommended) or rideshare. Small airport with major carriers. Often cheaper flights than flying into Philadelphia.
The Hotel Hershey, Hershey Lodge, and Hersheypark Camping Resort all offer free complimentary shuttle service to the park entrance. Shuttle runs every 15-30 min during park hours. No parking hassle, no parking fee.
Large surface parking lots. The walk from your car to the park entrance is 10-15 minutes with limited shade. On a hot day, this is noticeable. Keep your parking section in your phone. Bring water for the walk back at the end of the day.
Closer to the park entrance, cutting the walk to 5-8 minutes. Worth the extra $15 with strollers, car seats, and young children. Especially valuable at the end of a long day when everyone is tired and it is dark.
The Hotel Hershey, Hershey Lodge, and Hersheypark Camping Resort guests ride the free shuttle and skip parking entirely. The shuttle drops you near the entrance. No parking lot walk, no parking fee, no finding your car at 9pm in the dark.
ADA-designated spots closest to the park entrance. Display your placard at the parking booth. Wheelchair and ECV rental available near the park entrance inside.
Available near the park entrance. Consider bringing your own — the parking lot walk alone warrants one. Be aware that Hersheypark has hilly terrain, which makes stroller pushing more tiring than flat parks. The main paths are paved and manageable.
Full breakdown of every restroom location at Hersheypark, organized by themed area. The park is spread across hilly terrain with elevation changes between sections — plan restroom stops along your route rather than backtracking uphill with a full bladder and a stroller. Last verified July 2026.
When restrooms are busiest and when you will find the shortest lines. Hersheypark's hilly layout spreads crowds more than flat parks, but the entrance areas and The Boardwalk can get packed during peak hours.
Peak restroom traffic is 12:00pm-3pm when everyone breaks for lunch and the afternoon heat drives people to The Boardwalk and shade. Founder's Way restrooms are worst at park open/close. Go before noon or after 4pm for the shortest lines, or head to Pioneer Frontier or ZooAmerica.
Monday-Tuesday: Lightest summer crowds. Best days to visit.
Wednesday-Thursday: Moderate. Manageable with planning.
Friday: Picks up by early afternoon as weekend visitors arrive from Philadelphia and New York.
Saturday: Busiest day by far. Founder's Way and Boardwalk restrooms at capacity during lunch hours. Arrive at opening.
Sunday: Heavy in the morning, thins out after 2pm as families drive home to Philly, Baltimore, and DC.
Seasonal peaks: Fourth of July week is the busiest week of the year. Late June through mid-August is peak summer. Dark Nights Saturdays (October) are extremely crowded. Christmas Candylane weekends (Nov-Dec) are busy but manageable. May and September weekdays are the quietest.
💡 Pro tip: During live shows and character meets, midway restrooms empty out. Use show times for the shortest restroom lines. Also, Pioneer Frontier and ZooAmerica restrooms are consistently the least crowded because most guests stay near the entrance areas and The Boardwalk — their loss, your gain.
Hersheypark is wheelchair accessible, though the park's hilly terrain can be more challenging than flat parks. Here is everything families with special needs should know, including companion restrooms, mobility rentals, and accessibility services.
Wheelchair rental is $15/day ($20 deposit) and ECV/scooter rental is $55/day ($20 deposit). Both available near the park entrance. ECVs are first-come, first-served — arrive early on busy days. Be aware that the park has significant hills — an ECV is strongly recommended over a manual wheelchair for full-day visits.
Available at Guest Services near the park entrance. Hersheypark offers an Accessibility Pass for guests with disabilities who cannot wait in a standard queue. Provides scheduled return times similar to a virtual queue. Bring documentation of your disability. Ask about ride accessibility at each attraction — staff are trained and helpful.
Single-occupancy, gender-neutral companion restrooms at: Founder's Way (entrance plaza), Carousel Circle, Midway America, and The Boardwalk.
Service animal relief areas are located near the entrance and at designated spots throughout the park. Ask Guest Services for exact current locations. Only trained service animals are permitted — emotional support animals are not allowed.
Hersheypark is built on rolling terrain. Some areas require walking up and down significant grades. The path between Founder's Way and Pioneer Frontier has noticeable elevation changes. An ECV is strongly recommended for guests with mobility challenges. The main midway paths are paved and maintained.
Hersheypark can be loud and overstimulating. The calmest areas are ZooAmerica (separate, quieter space with nature) and Carousel Circle (gentle, family-focused). The Baby Care Station near Carousel Circle can serve as a temporary quiet retreat. During Dark Nights (fall), the scare elements add additional stimulation — visit during daytime hours with sensory-sensitive children.
Real tips from families who have navigated the Sweetest Place on Earth with kids. These will save you time, sweat, and at least one chocolate-covered meltdown.
There are NO restrooms inside any ride queue at Hersheypark. Candymonium, Storm Runner, and Fahrenheit queues can exceed 60 minutes. Make a restroom stop a non-negotiable rule before joining any line. This is the single most important tip for families.
Hershey's Chocolate World is free and adjacent to the park. Visit before park opening for the free chocolate tour and samples, or after the park closes. It has its own restrooms, air conditioning, and free parking. A perfect warm-up or wind-down for kids.
Pioneer Frontier restrooms consistently have the shortest lines because it is toward the back of the park and fewer guests walk that far. If you are in the middle of the park and can wait 5 minutes, head to Pioneer Frontier or ZooAmerica.
Central Pennsylvania summers hit 90°F+ with humidity. Combined with Hersheypark's hilly terrain, fatigue sets in faster than at flat parks. Bring sunscreen, hats, refill water bottles at every stop, and plan for ZooAmerica or The Boardwalk as a mid-afternoon cool-down.
Any quick-service restaurant will give you free ice water. Just ask. On a 93-degree Pennsylvania day with humidity, this is critical. Water fountains throughout the park can run warm — ask a restaurant for the cold stuff.
The Boardwalk waterpark is included with park admission — no separate ticket needed. This is a huge advantage over many other parks. Bring swimwear and towels. Use the Boardwalk changing rooms to change before heading back to rides. A perfect mid-afternoon cooldown.
ZooAmerica is connected to the park and included with admission. It is a calm, shaded wildlife park with 200+ animals. Perfect when kids (or parents) need a break from rides, noise, and crowds. It has its own quiet restrooms too.
At park opening, most guests stop at the first rides near Founder's Way. Head straight to Pioneer Frontier or The Hollow while the crowds are near the entrance. Shorter ride lines AND shorter restroom lines.
Quietest days for crowds and restroom lines. Avoid Saturdays (busiest), Fourth of July week, and Dark Nights Saturdays. Check the Hersheypark app for crowd predictions.
Lunch rush at Founder's Way restaurants is brutal from 11:30am-2pm. Eat early or late. Restrooms near dining areas are packed during lunch too. Spring Creek Smokehouse in Pioneer Frontier is less crowded.
Hersheypark Christmas Candylane (Nov-Jan) is genuinely magical for families. 5 million lights, holiday rides, Santa's Reindeer, hot chocolate, and a winter wonderland atmosphere. Cooler weather means less restroom crowding. Bundle up.
Even if your kids can walk, bring a stroller. The parking lot walk is 10-15 min, the park has hills, and tired legs by 3pm are guaranteed. The hills make stroller pushing harder than flat parks — bring a lightweight model with good brakes.
Lockers are available near major rides and the park entrance. Store your diaper bag, swimwear, extra clothes, and Chocolate World purchases. Small lockers near rides for electronics and loose items. Large lockers at the entrance for all-day storage.
The Hershey's Chocolate character meet area near Carousel Circle is the best photo spot — and the Carousel Circle restrooms and Baby Care Station are right there. The Kissing Tower overlook is also a great photo op with restrooms at the base.
During Dark Nights (Sep-Oct), the park is family-friendly during the day with fall decorations and Hershey characters in costumes. After dusk, scare zones activate. Leave before dark with young children. The scare elements can be intense.
A suggested family-friendly route through Hersheypark with planned restroom stops. The park has hilly terrain — plan your path to minimize backtracking uphill, and you will never be caught without a restroom nearby.
1. Founder's Way — Use restrooms immediately after entry (1 min). 2. Walk through to Pioneer Frontier while crowds are near the entrance (10 min walk). 3. Ride Storm Runner & Trailblazer while lines are short. Use Pioneer Frontier restrooms between rides. 4. Cut through to The Hollow — Ride Great Bear. Use Hollow restrooms. 5. Head to Midway America for Candymonium while it is still early. Use Midway America restrooms before joining the queue. 6. Walk to Carousel Circle for toddler rides and Baby Care Station.
1. Lunch at Spring Creek Smokehouse (Pioneer Frontier) or Midway Grill. Use restrooms during lunch. 2. The Boardwalk — Head to the waterpark for a mid-afternoon cool-down. Use Boardwalk changing rooms and restrooms. Swim, rest, cool off. 3. ZooAmerica — Walk through the zoo for a calm, shaded break. Restrooms available. 4. Circle back to Kissing Tower Hill for Kissing Tower, Fahrenheit. Restrooms at the base. 5. Minetown for Laff Trakk (indoor, air-conditioned). Restrooms nearby. 6. Evening rides — Lines are shortest after 6pm. Restrooms across the park are empty.
Staying hydrated at Hersheypark is critical — the hilly terrain means you are exerting more energy than at flat parks, and Pennsylvania summer humidity makes dehydration sneak up fast. More water means more restroom stops, so plan both together.
Any quick-service restaurant at Hersheypark will give you a free cup of ice water. Just ask at the counter. The Chocolatier, Spring Creek Smokehouse, Midway Grill, Subway, Chickie's & Pete's — all of them. Do not buy $6 bottled water.
Water fountains are located near most restroom clusters throughout the park. They can run warm on hot days. For cold water, ask a restaurant for free ice water instead. The Boardwalk area has additional fountains near the changing rooms.
Hersheypark sells refillable souvenir cups with discounted refills all day. Available at most food stands. Water, soda, lemonade, and frozen drinks. A cost-effective way to stay hydrated if you refill 3+ times — plus a souvenir.
Limited shade on the main midways but more natural tree cover than many parks. Best cool-down options: Baby Care Station (AC), The Chocolatier (AC), Subway in Minetown (AC), ZooAmerica (shaded paths), and The Boardwalk water attractions.
Coal Cracker (log flume) and Tidal Force (giant splash ride) in The Hollow will get you soaked. Great for cooling off on hot days. Change clothes at The Boardwalk changing rooms or The Hollow restrooms afterward. Tidal Force spectators get drenched too — warning.
Hersheypark allows you to bring a refillable water bottle. Fill it at water fountains or ask for free water at restaurants. A 32oz insulated bottle per family member is the smartest thing you can pack — the hills will make you thirstier than you expect.
First Aid stations are available at Hersheypark with restroom facilities. Know where they are before you need them.
Located near Founder's Way, close to the park entrance. Staffed with trained medical personnel. Has its own restroom facilities. Provides band-aids, OTC medications, ice packs, cooling assistance, sunburn treatment, and basic medical care. A second First Aid station is located near The Boardwalk.
In-park emergencies: Contact any ride operator or team member. Hersheypark Security: Available throughout the park and via the park app. Lost children: Report to Guest Services near the entrance. 911: Available for true emergencies. Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is 3 miles away.
Central PA summers combine heat, humidity, and Hersheypark's hilly terrain to create higher-than-expected exertion. Watch for signs of heat exhaustion in children: excessive sweating, dizziness, nausea. Head to First Aid, the Baby Care Station (AC), ZooAmerica (shade), or any indoor restaurant. Free ice water at every restaurant counter.
Arriving early or leaving late? These restrooms are available without a park ticket. Hershey's Chocolate World is the best option — free admission, air-conditioned, and clean restrooms.
