Progressive Field opened on April 4, 1994 as Jacobs Field (commonly called "The Jake"), replacing the aging Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Built at a cost of $175 million as part of the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex alongside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse (then Gund Arena), it was one of the early entries in the retro-ballpark movement of the 1990s.
The stadium was renamed Progressive Field in 2008 when Progressive Corporation acquired the naming rights. It seats approximately 34,788 fans — one of the smaller capacities in MLB after renovations reduced the original 42,865 seats. The ballpark has been lauded for its intimate sightlines, exposed steel design, and views of the Cleveland skyline beyond the left-field wall.
Progressive Field hosted the 1997 All-Star Game and was the site of the Guardians' (then Indians') incredible 22-game winning streak in 2017. The stadium has undergone continuous improvements, including a 2024-2026 renovation project that completed the blue seating installation, added the Guardians Classics self-checkout stand in Section 556, the Arcade Marketplace in Section 138, and The Landing between Sections 162 and 164.
Progressive Field has 41 restrooms in the stadium — 19 men's, 19 women's, and 3 family restrooms. Restrooms are located conveniently at all levels of the ballpark.
All restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Elevators connect all concourse levels. For assistance, visit any Guest Relations booth or contact the Guardians accessibility team.
Family restrooms are located at Lower First Aid (Section 125), the Family Deck (near Section 316), and the Upper Deck (Section 546, near First Aid at Section 550). Restrooms inside the Kids Clubhouse are also available for families.
Restrooms are accessible once inside the stadium. Gates typically open 90 minutes before first pitch. Outside, the nearest public restrooms are at Tower City Center (connected by enclosed walkway) and restaurants on East 4th Street.

The enclosed walkway from Tower City-Public Square station is 1,050 feet long and climate-controlled — the best way to get to the park in Cleveland's winter-cold April nights.
Family restrooms are limited to three locations (Sections 125, 316, and 546). The Family Deck restroom near Section 316 is your best bet — it's near the Kids Clubhouse which also has restrooms.
East 4th Street is a 5-minute walk from the ballpark and has some of Cleveland's best restaurants and bars — hit it before or after the game for better food than stadium concessions.
The RTA Red Line runs directly from Hopkins Airport to Tower City in 37 minutes for $2.50 — the cheapest and most reliable way to get to a Guardians game from the airport.
The new Arcade Marketplace in Section 138 and The Landing between Sections 162-164 have self-checkout options — shorter lines than traditional concession stands.
All concourses and restrooms are open. Gates open 90 minutes before first pitch. The Lower Level concourse behind home plate sees the heaviest restroom traffic during the 5th and 7th innings. The Guardians Classics self-checkout stand in Section 556 is a quick option on the upper concourse.
Concert configurations vary. Most Lower Level and Upper Deck restrooms remain open. Some premium areas may be restricted. Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse events next door can create shared parking congestion.

The Gateway East Garage is the official lot at $10-$15. Nearby lots range from $5-$20 depending on proximity and demand. Opening Day lots can spike to $80. The RTA to Tower City with the enclosed walkway is the best transit option. Free downtown trolleys run Monday-Friday 7am-7pm on the E-Line and B-Line.
