Denver International Airport opened on February 28, 1995 — 16 months behind schedule and $2 billion over budget, largely due to its notorious automated baggage system that was eventually scrapped. DEN replaced the aging Stapleton International Airport and was built on 53 square miles of prairie northeast of Denver, making it the largest airport by land area in the US.
The iconic Jeppesen Terminal was designed by Fentress Bradburn Architects with a Teflon-coated fiberglass tent roof meant to evoke the snow-capped Rocky Mountains. The airport has become famous for its public art — including 'Blue Mustang' (nicknamed 'Blucifer'), a 32-foot blue horse with glowing red eyes that killed its creator when a piece fell on him during construction. DEN has inspired numerous conspiracy theories about underground bunkers and secret tunnels. The airport added a commuter rail connection (A Line) to downtown Denver in 2016, and a major terminal renovation (Great Hall Project) has been underway since 2018.
DEN has restrooms in the Jeppesen Terminal (pre-security on Levels 4 and 5) and on all three concourses (A, B, C) post-security. Family restrooms are throughout. The Great Hall renovation in Jeppesen Terminal may temporarily relocate some pre-security restrooms — follow signage.
All restrooms are ADA-accessible. The underground train connects Jeppesen Terminal to all three concourses with elevator access at every station. Wheelchair assistance is available through your airline or by calling DEN at (303) 342-2000.
Family restrooms are on every concourse and in the Jeppesen Terminal. Three nursing rooms are at the center of each concourse (A opposite A49, B near B20, C near C30). A fourth nursing room in the Jeppesen Terminal (Level 5) may be temporarily closed during renovation.
Pre-security restrooms on Levels 4 and 5 of the Jeppesen Terminal are open 24/7 without a boarding pass. The A Line train station (Level 4) provides access for transit riders.

The underground train between Jeppesen Terminal and the concourses runs every few minutes. You cannot walk between the terminal and concourses — the train or bus is the only way. Allow 10-15 minutes from security to your gate.
Concourse C is the smallest and often least crowded. If you're on Concourse A and want quieter restrooms, the train to C takes about 5 minutes. But check your departure time — you don't want to miss your flight.
The Jeppesen Terminal Great Hall renovation has been ongoing since 2018 and may affect pre-security restroom locations. Follow temporary signage. Post-security facilities on the concourses are unaffected.
Take the A Line commuter rail from Denver Union Station — it's $10.50 and takes 37 minutes. Much better than driving 25 miles on Pena Blvd, especially in a blizzard. The train runs every 15 minutes.
DEN is at 5,430 feet elevation. Dehydration hits harder at altitude — drink extra water. The dry mountain air also means restroom visits may be more frequent than you're used to.
The 'Blucifer' blue horse statue with glowing red eyes is on Pena Blvd approaching the airport. Love it or hate it, it's become DEN's unofficial mascot. The conspiracy theory murals inside the terminal are on Level 5.
TSA PreCheck is at the bridge security checkpoint on Level 5. CLEAR is also available. During peak ski season (December-March), security lines can exceed 60 minutes without PreCheck.
DEN is the gateway to Colorado ski resorts. Weekend passenger volume spikes significantly during ski season. Saturday and Sunday morning flights see the heaviest restroom traffic. Concourse B (Southwest to mountain cities) is especially busy.
DEN handles 200,000+ passengers daily during peak travel. The Jeppesen Terminal security checkpoint can have 60+ minute waits. All concourse restrooms remain open 24/7.
When the Broncos play on Sunday, DEN sees increased traffic from visiting fans on Friday and Sunday evening. Concourses A and B handle most of the domestic traffic.
