State Farm Stadium opened on August 1, 2006, as the first stadium in North America to feature both a fully retractable roof and a retractable natural grass playing field. The 63,400-seat venue (expandable to 72,800 for major events) was designed by Peter Eisenman and cost $455 million to build.
The retractable field is an engineering marvel — the 18.9-million-pound tray of natural grass rolls outside the stadium on 546 steel wheels along 13 rails, allowing the turf to grow in Arizona's abundant sunshine while keeping the interior available for non-football events. The roof, made of translucent ETFE panels, can open or close in about 12 minutes.
Originally named University of Phoenix Stadium, it was renamed State Farm Stadium in 2018. The venue has hosted two Super Bowls (XLII in 2008 and XLIX in 2015), multiple Fiesta Bowls, the 2017 NCAA Final Four, and WrestleMania. It also hosted FIFA World Cup 2026 matches.
The stadium sits adjacent to the Westgate Entertainment District, a walkable dining, shopping, and entertainment complex that has transformed the surrounding area from empty desert into a vibrant game-day destination.
State Farm Stadium has 77 public restrooms spread across three main concourse levels — Lower Level (100 Level), Club Level (200 Level), and Upper Level (400 Level). Of these, 50 are ADA accessible and equipped with baby-changing tables. The stadium's wide concourses and plentiful restrooms keep lines moving quickly even during halftime rushes.

Family restrooms are located on each level: Sections 109 and 119 (Lower Level), Section 210 (Club Level), and Sections 410 and 430 (Upper Level). All have changing tables and are single-occupancy. Baby changing stations are also available in all public restroom facilities.
The stadium does not have public restrooms on non-event days. The adjacent Westgate Entertainment District has restrooms in its restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues year-round.

The Westgate Entertainment District is directly adjacent to the stadium and is the best pre-game destination. Arrive early, eat, and use Westgate restrooms before entering the stadium to avoid the initial gate-opening rush.
Some parking lots (Orange, Green, Blue, Pink, Purple Garage, Black, Yellow) offer complimentary parking on a first-come basis. Arrive early — these lots fill up fast and are furthest from the gates.
The retractable roof means you never have to worry about Arizona heat or rain inside the stadium. Even in September when it is still 100°F+ outside, the air-conditioned interior is comfortable.
Upper Level (400 Level) restrooms are consistently less crowded than the Lower Level. If you are on the Lower Level, the end zone concourse restrooms have shorter lines than the sideline sections.
Baby changing stations are in all 77 public restrooms — not just the family restrooms. You do not need to hunt for a family restroom just for a diaper change.
The stadium is cashless for parking and most concessions. Make sure you have a card or mobile payment ready before arriving.
All concourses and restrooms are open. Gates open 90 minutes before kickoff. The retractable roof is typically closed during early-season games due to extreme heat and opened for cooler late-season games. Restroom lines peak at halftime. The Westgate Entertainment District is the primary pre-game gathering spot.
Capacity expands to approximately 72,800 for major college football events. Additional temporary seating and standing room are added. All restroom facilities remain open. Enhanced security screening may slow gate entry — arrive early.
