    Use Braidwood toilets halfway

The Kings Highway has almost no facilities for 150km. Stop at Braidwood or hold on until Batemans Bay.

    Plan aheadLimited stops2hr drive

This is the big one. Two hours of winding mountain road over Clyde Mountain with essentially nothing between Braidwood and the coast. Go at Braidwood. Seriously. Or face an uncomfortable descent through the Clyde Gorge.

Murramarang National Park is 20 minutes south. It has its own toilet facilities at Pebbly Beach and depot camping areas.

    QuieterFamily-friendlyResidential

    Getting to Batemans Bay

    From Canberra (Kings Highway)

150km, approximately 2 hours via the Kings Highway. Winding mountain road over Clyde Mountain. Scenic but demanding — not a highway in the freeway sense.

Toilet stops: Bungendore (30min), Braidwood (1hr), then nothing until Batemans Bay. Go before Braidwood.

    From Sydney (Princes Highway)

280km, approximately 3.5 hours via the Princes Highway through Kiama, Nowra, and Ulladulla. Easier drive with more towns and toilet stops along the way.

Multiple toilet stops through south coast towns. Much less stressful than the Kings Highway for families with kids.

    Kings Highway Toilet Warning

Critical gap: After Braidwood, there are NO public toilets for approximately 60km of winding mountain road over the Clyde Mountain.

Friday afternoon traffic can extend this section from 45 minutes to well over an hour. Factor in extra time.

If you're travelling with kids or anyone with urgent needs, the Princes Highway via Kiama is a longer but much more comfortable route with regular town stops.
